Power Concepts are a local electrical contracting business that has been in operation for 10 years and provides electrical services to the entire Northern Territory. From the beginning they saw the need to ensure that the industry is moving forward with competent and skilled tradespeople. They employed an apprentice in their first year of business and have been committed to building a skilled territory, employing an apprentice each year since then.
“Apprentices and trainees are vital to ensuring that our industry and many other trades and vocations continue to strive.” Says Director, Matthew Timms.
Over the 10 years they have successfully completed 11 apprentices, and currently employee 3 apprentices. They have provided work experience for over 40 students. Power Concepts strongly believe in the continuation of trade licensing and apprentices are the back bone of this system.
They are involved with the Department of Education’s work experience programs and provide a rotational work place for Group Training apprentices and will continue to provide vocational education and training opportunities through employing apprentices in line with the work levels of the business and will continue to support both the Department of Education’s work experiences program and provide rotational work for Group Training companies.
Throughout the years, Power Concepts have been recognised for their contribution to the industry and awarded the following:
• 2010 Master Builders Electrical Apprentice of the Year
• 2010 Master Builders Overall Apprentice of the Year
• 2012 Power Concepts Master Electrician of Australia
• 2017 Master Electricians SA/NT Electrical Apprentice of the Year
Their apprentice Hilary Ingham say “she enjoys working outdoors every day in a high-risk environment, and loves learning the trade. ”She hopes to continue her study to become an Instrumentation Electrician.
